Hollywood Park Nursery School- Local Offer
Warm, inclusive support for children with additional needs
Hollywood Park Nursery School is a calm, nurturing and inclusive setting where every child is valued, understood and supported to thrive. Our Local Offer explains how we identify and support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and how we work in partnership with families and professionals.
Our SEND Approach
We believe every child is capable, curious and full of potential. Our SEND support is rooted in:
-
warm, attuned relationships
-
predictable routines and gentle transitions
-
nature‑rich learning
-
sensory‑rich experiences
-
communication‑focused practice
-
small‑step developmental pathways
-
close partnership with families
We adapt our curriculum and environment so every child can participate confidently. Our Ordinarily Available Inclusive Practice (OAIP) ensures all children benefit from inclusive, communication‑rich, sensory‑aware teaching across the nursery.
Early Identification
We identify needs early through:
-
close observation
-
conversations with families
-
developmental checkpoints
-
strengths‑based summaries
-
small‑group notes
-
professional advice (where appropriate)
If we notice a child may need additional support, we:
-
share observations sensitively
-
listen to family insight
-
agree next steps together
-
put early help in place
-
monitor progress regularly
Early identification helps us respond with care and precision.
The Graduated Response
We follow the Assess – Plan – Do – Review cycle:
Assess We observe, listen and gather information from families and professionals.
Plan We agree targets and strategies together.
Do We implement support through daily practice, small‑group learning and targeted interventions.
Review We meet with families to discuss progress and adjust support.
This cycle ensures support is responsive and meaningful. Suppoet may be offered at different levels, including SEN Short Notes, Targeted Support and Enhanced Support, depending on each child's needs.
Support in the Nursery Rooms
Children with SEND are included in all areas of nursery life. Staff adapt:
-
activities
-
routines
-
environments
-
communication
-
expectations
We use visual supports, sensory tools, calm spaces and small‑group learning to help children feel secure and ready to explore. Children access learning through our developmental curriculum pathways (2s, 3s, 4s and Resource Base), ensuring teaching matches each child’s stage of development.
Our Resource Base
Some children benefit from a highly structured, sensory‑rich environment. Our Resource Base provides specialist SEND provision for children aged 2–4 with significant and complex needs.
It offers:
-
low‑arousal spaces
-
sensory‑rich learning
-
communication‑focused practice
-
small‑step developmental pathways (S1–S7)
-
close partnership with families
-
specialist professional input
More information is available on our Resource Base page.
