Keeping children safe through strong relationships, clear routines and a culture of vigilance

At Hollywood Park Nursery School, children’s safety and wellbeing are our highest priority. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing environment where children feel protected, listened to and valued. Safeguarding is embedded in our daily practice, our routines and our relationships with families.

We follow Stockport’s safeguarding procedures and work closely with external agencies to ensure children receive the right support at the right time.

Our Safeguarding Team

• Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Catherine Armstrong

• Deputy DSLs: Sophie Garrick, Kerry Millward, Melanie Lee, Amina Khan, Emma Brown

• All staff receive regular safeguarding and child protection training.

• Updates and refreshers take place throughout the year.

Our team is vigilant, proactive and confident in recognising early signs of worry.

How We Keep Children Safe

We keep children safe through:

• secure site and controlled access

• clear arrival and collection procedures

• strong staff ratios and supervision

• safe use of technology and photographs

• risk assessments indoors, outdoors and in Nature School

• predictable routines that help children feel secure

• positive behaviour and emotional regulation support

• early identification of concerns or changes in behaviour

Safeguarding is part of everything we do — from the way we greet children to the way we plan the environment.

Working with Families

We believe safeguarding is strongest when families and staff work together. We communicate openly, honestly and sensitively.

Families can expect:

• clear information

• timely updates

• supportive conversations

• a strengths‑based approach

• respect and confidentiality

If we have a concern, we will always talk to you unless doing so would place a child at further risk.

Early Help

We offer Early Help support for families who may need extra guidance. This can include:

• support with routines

• behaviour and emotional regulation

• SEND needs

• housing or financial worries

• family changes

• accessing external services

Early Help is about supporting families early, kindly and without judgement.

Online Safety

We teach children simple, age‑appropriate messages about staying safe online. We also support families with guidance on:

• safe device use

• parental controls

• sharing images

• social media awareness
